Electrician in Beenleigh, 4207
Beenleigh is one of Logan’s oldest towns. That history shows up in the housing stock, timber Queenslanders from the 50s and 60s, fibro homes from the 70s, brick veneer from the 80s, and a high proportion of rentals mixed in between. It’s the kind of suburb where the electrical in a lot of houses has been added to, patched, and extended by whoever lived there over the decades. The results can be interesting.
We work in Beenleigh regularly. Here’s what we find.
Old homes, old wiring
The older timber and fibro homes around Beenleigh often come with ceramic fuse boards still doing the job they were doing when the house was new. No safety switches. Single circuits running through the whole house. Wiring that was fine for a handful of lights and a kettle, not fine for split-system aircons, big flat-screen TVs, and electric vehicles.
A switchboard upgrade replaces that old fuse board with a modern consumer unit, RCD protection across your power and lighting circuits, circuit breakers instead of fuse wire, and a certificate of compliance when we leave. Under Queensland law, safety switches are required whenever new electrical work is done. If you’ve never had any, there’s a good chance you still don’t have them.
It’s a one-day job. It also has to happen before solar or an EV charger can go in, so if either of those are on the list, the switchboard is where you start.
Smoke alarm compliance, especially relevant for rental properties
Queensland’s smoke alarm laws changed in 2022. By 2027, every Queensland home, rental or owner-occupied, must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom and hallway. Rentals had to comply first, and a lot of landlords in Beenleigh are still catching up.
We install and wire interconnected smoke alarm systems to meet the current QLD requirements. If you’re a landlord and you’re not sure whether your property is compliant, it’s worth getting it checked before your next lease renewal. Read more about the QLD smoke alarm laws here.
Ceiling fans and power points in older homes
Beenleigh’s older homes weren’t designed with ducted aircon in mind. High ceilings in the Queenslanders are a blessing in summer, but only if air is actually moving. A ceiling fan on a slow setting can make a room feel a few degrees cooler before you touch the aircon remote. We install ceiling fans and power points in homes where the wiring needs to be run from scratch, not just swapped out.
Power points are the other thing. One double GPO in a bedroom was enough in 1965. It isn’t now. We add circuits and power points properly, not with double adapters and extension leads.
Aircon in a Logan summer
You know what Beenleigh summers are like. If your current setup isn’t keeping up, we install and wire reverse-cycle split systems for single rooms or the whole house. More on air conditioning installation here.
