Two of the biggest electrical jobs homeowners are tackling right now are adding proper aircon and setting up a home EV charger. Both look simple on the surface. Both can go sideways fast if the electrical side isn’t thought through.

Sizing and placement matter more than brand
An undersized unit runs flat-out and never gets the room cool enough. An oversized one cycles on and off constantly, doesn’t dehumidify properly, and burns out sooner. We look at the room size, ceiling height, insulation, and window orientation before recommending a unit, not just whatever’s on special at the hardware shop.
Placement affects efficiency too. The indoor head unit needs to throw air across the room without blowing directly on you. The outdoor condenser needs adequate clearance and airflow, and ideally not baking in western sun all afternoon.
What’s involved
A straightforward split-system installation is usually a one-day job. We supply and install split-systems from reputable brands, or install a unit you’ve already purchased. Every installation includes:
- Electrical supply from your switchboard to the indoor and outdoor units
- Refrigerant line-set run and insulation
- Drain line to a compliant outlet point
- Full test and commission
- Electrical compliance certificate on completion
Installers in Queensland must hold both an electrical licence and an ARCtick refrigerant handling licence. We hold both.
Home EV Charger Installation
Don’t rely on a power point
Plugging your EV into a standard GPO with an extension lead is slow and not designed for sustained overnight charging loads. A dedicated EV charger, a wall-mounted EVSE unit on its own circuit, charges faster and is far safer long-term.
Single-phase vs three-phase
Most homes in Brisbane and Logan are single-phase. A 7 kW single-phase charger will fully charge most EVs overnight. If you’re charging a large-battery vehicle or want faster top-ups, a three-phase supply (32 A) can charge at up to 22 kW, but your home needs a three-phase connection from the street, and not all do.

What about the switchboard?
An EV charger puts a sustained load on your board that most older switchboards weren’t designed for. Before we install anything, we check:
- Available capacity in your switchboard
- Whether you have safety switches (RCDs) on all circuits
- The condition of your main earth and metering

Common Questions
Can I get aircon and an EV charger quoted in the same visit? Yes, and it usually makes sense to do both at once. One site visit, one compliance certificate, and we can think about the switchboard load holistically rather than piecemeal.
Do I need to buy the aircon unit myself? Either way works. We can supply and install, or do install-only if you’ve already purchased a unit. Just check the model with us first, some cheaper imported units aren’t worth the labour to hang.
Do you handle the aircon installation itself, or just the wiring? Both. We’re a licensed sparky and a split system installer, so the air con install and the electrical side get done by the one crew on the one visit. Doesn’t matter whether you call it aircon installation or an air con install, the work’s the same. Hang the indoor head, set the outdoor condenser, run and insulate the line-set, sort the drain to a compliant outlet, then test and commission.
