Carindale is mostly double-brick homes built from the mid-1980s onwards, with a solid chunk of larger estate-style houses on 600–800 m² blocks that have been extended, updated, or fully renovated in the years since. It’s not a suburb of heritage Queenslanders with ceramic fuses, the wiring issues here are different, and in some ways more expensive to ignore.
What we see in Carindale homes
The original switchboards in 80s and 90s brick homes were sized for a much simpler household. Back then, a three-bedroom house might have one split-system aircon, a single oven, and nothing in the garage. Now those same homes have ducted systems, two or three reverse-cycle units, induction cooktops, home theatre setups, EV chargers, and pool equipment, all competing on a board that was never designed for it.
Tripping circuits are common. So is finding that the board has no room to add a dedicated circuit without replacing the whole thing. That’s not unusual, it’s just what happens when you run modern appliances through infrastructure from a different era.
