The electrical side of hot water
Straight up: we do the wiring, not the plumbing. If your hot water system needs a plumber for the tank, the valves or the pipework, that’s a job for a plumber, not us. But every electric hot water system has an electrical side, and that part is ours to get right.
What we wire
- Dedicated circuits for electric storage and heat-pump hot water systems
- Off-peak and controlled-load wiring (Energex tariff 31 and 33), so the system runs on the cheaper overnight rate, wired back through the board and metered the way it should be
- Changeover connections when you’re swapping an old system for a new one. The plumber sorts the tank, we handle the electrical hookup
- Isolation switches and RCD protection to current standards
- Fault-finding when an electric system stops heating and it turns out to be the circuit or the element supply, not the plumbing
Off-peak, wired properly
Running electric hot water on a controlled-load tariff is cheaper, but only if it’s wired and metered correctly. Get it wrong and you either pay peak rates for it or it doesn’t heat when it should. We set it up with Energex’s controlled-load rules in mind, so it runs overnight on the cheaper rate the way it’s meant to.
When it’s gone cold
If your hot water’s stopped and you’re not sure who to call, we can test the electrical side first: the circuit, the isolation switch, the element supply. Then we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s an electrical fix or one for the plumber, so you’re not paying the wrong trade to come and look.
