House Rewiring
Old rubber or cloth wiring, or a home that hasn't been touched in decades? We rewire Brisbane and Logan houses in stages or in one go, with a certificate of compliance at the end.
Does your house actually need rewiring?
Not every old home needs a full rewire, and any sparky who says it does before looking is guessing. Plenty of houses just need a switchboard upgrade and a few circuits sorted. But some wiring has genuinely reached the end of its life, and no amount of patching fixes that.
Around the older Centenary suburbs and the western side of Brisbane, a lot of homes still run cabling from the 60s and 70s. That’s rubber and cloth-insulated wiring that goes brittle with age and heat. Once the insulation starts cracking, the wire underneath is a fault waiting to happen, usually somewhere you can’t see.
Signs worth taking seriously:
- Rubber or cloth-covered wiring in the roof or under the house, often black and crumbly to the touch
- Recurring faults that move around the house and never quite get pinned down
- Warm or discoloured power points and switches
- Not enough circuits for how the house is used now, so everything runs off a handful of overloaded runs
- A renovation or extension where it makes sense to bring the whole lot up to standard while the walls are open
What a rewire involves
Every job starts with a proper look at what’s actually in the walls and roof, not a guess from the switchboard. We’ll tell you what has to go, what can stay, and what we recommend, before you agree to anything.
From there it’s new cabling run through the roof and walls, new circuits sized for how you actually live, and almost always a switchboard upgrade to go with it, because a new set of circuits needs a board that can protect them. You get a certificate of compliance when we finish.
Staged, or all at once
You don’t always have to do the whole house in one hit. If the budget’s tight or you’re living in the place, we can rewire in stages: the urgent runs first, the rest as it suits you. It’s not always the cheapest way in the long run, but it beats living with wiring you don’t trust while you save up for the lot.
What it costs
A rewire is a real job, and the price swings a lot depending on the house. What moves it: the size and number of storeys, whether we can get into the roof and under the floor easily or it’s all concrete slab, how much has to be chased into solid walls, and whether you’re mid-renovation with the walls already open (which makes it far cheaper).
We won’t quote a rewire over the phone. We come out, look properly, and give you a fixed price you approve before we start. No call-out fee for the visit.
